  29. 1. - INSTALLATION TIPS
  30.  
  31. Virus Checking Programs: If you are using a virus checking program
  32. that remains resident in memory, and you receive an alert
  33. from it while installing Money, ignore the program's
  34. alert. Or, remove the virus-checking program from memory
  35. if it is not possible to ignore the alert, restart your
  36. computer and run Setup again.
  37.  
  38. Stacker: If you are running the program Stacker, or if you are 
  39. using DoubleSpace with MS DOS version 6.0, Money Setup
  40. might get wrong information about the available disk space
  41. available. If Setup is not completed successfully, you will
  42. need to free more space on your hard disk and run Money 
  43. Setup again. 
  44.  
  45. If you are running hDC Virtual DeskTop version 1, Money Setup will
  46. install all the Money files, but the Transaction Cue Cards
  47. and the Money Preview will not operate correctly.
  48. From the hDC Power Launcher menu, choose Remove in
  49. order to run the Money cue cards and previews.

  52. 2. - WHAT'S NEW IN MONEY 3
  53.  
  54. If you use Money version 1 or 2, you'll want to know about the
  55. following new features of version 3:  (Page numbers refer to the
  56. Money User's Guide, where you can find more information.)

  59. * Track your investments - You will be able to keep track of your
  60.   stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and other investments such as your
  61.   401(K) plan.  You will also be able to update prices (manually 
  62.   or with Quotes On-Line), and  view reports about gains, net 
  63.   worth, and more. (Page 217)

  65. * Financial Wizards - Money 3 has these new financial wizards to
  66.   help you with your finances:
  67.   - Loan Calculator: understand the terms and costs of a loan, or
  68.     compare two loans. (Page 214)
  69.   - Mortgage Planner: compare two mortgages. (Page 216)
  70.   - Savings Calculator: plan your savings toward a future goal.

  81. * Bank On-Line (participating banks only) allows you to bank from 
  82.   your home or office. It downloads all bank or credit card records
  83.   directly into your  Money records, and automatically categorizes
  84.   your credit card transactions. (Page 286)

  86. * Quotes On-Line allows you to download into your Money records 
  87.   closing prices of any stock or mutual fund traded in the major
  88.   markets. (Page 238)

  90. * Import all QIF account files from your Quicken records in just
  91.   one step. You won't need to import one QIF file at a time.

  93. * Right mouse click report on payee in the Account Book; while
  94.   editing a transaction, click the right mouse button in the Payee
  95.   field to bring up a list of the latest transactions for that 
  96.   payee.

  98. * Improved reports, including a register running balance report

  100. * The Memo field can be 255 characters long (from a max of 32 in
  101.   version 2)

  114. * Improved Loan Setup wizard, including support for Canadian
  115.   mortgages.

  117. * Tax Form Reports for Canada and Australia.

  119. * Improved menu layout, and new Cascade command under the Window
  120.   Menu.

  122. * Improved Graphics - new illustrations in many dialog boxes.

  129. 3. - TAX FORM TABLES FOR US, CANADA AND AUSTRALIA
  130.  
  131. When you install Money, Setup will install a Canadian, Australian
  132. or United States version of the Tax Table, depending on your
  133. Country setting in the International dialog box of the Microsoft
  134. Windows Control Panel. For more information about the Control 
  135. Panel, see the Microsoft Windows documentation.
  136.  
  137. If your Country setting is Australia and if you don't have a file
  138. named MSMONEY.MNY in your Money directory, Setup will copy a 
  139. version of MSMONEY.MNY that has been customized for Australia
  140. with a default list of categories already assigned to the 
  141. corresponding Tax Form and Tax Form Line.
  142.

  147. 4. - OTHER TIPS
  148.  
  149. Excel macro: Setup installs a Microsoft Excel macro to help
  150. convert checking account information from Excel to Money. See
  151. Appendix B in the User's Guide for more information.
  152.  
  153. Charts: If you are displaying a large amount of data in a chart,
  154. some text might be overlapped or clipped. Money offers several
  155. ways to avoid this:
  156. * Use a smaller font size.
  157. * Lump small percentages together in the Combine All
  158.   Values Under  %  Of Total option, when customizing
  159.   a report.
  160. * Create a different type of chart.
  161.  
  162. On-Line Payees: If you are using Pay On-Line, the first time you 
  163. make a connection to On-Line Services, a file called EPAYEES.LST
  164. is downloaded and copied to your hard disk. This file allows you
  165. to add On-Line payees to your list of payees, and allows Money to
  166. calculate the number of days needed to pay each of them. If you
  167. move your MSMONEY.MNY file to a different directory or computer,
  168. or if you make a backup, remember to copy the EPAYEES.LST file
  169. along with the MNY file.

  172. 5. - HARDWARE PROBLEMS OR INCOMPATIBILITIES
  173.  
  174. This is a list of known hardware incompatibility problems:
  175.  
  176.  
  177. * If you are using a Telebit QBlazer modem for On-Line Services,
  178.   add the following lines to your WIN.INI file:
  179.   [MNYESRV]
  180.   InitModem=S58=0S180=0S190=0
  181.  
  182. * If you will be using On-Line Services with a PDI at work,
  183.   as opposed to with a standard telephone modem, add 
  184.   these two lines to your win.ini:
  185.   [MNYESRV]
  186.   InitModem=S32=0&C1&D3
  187.  
  188. * Printing checks on the HP Deskjet printer
  189.   Money recommends using Laser Voucher checks with this
  190.   printer or printing Laser Standard checks in batches of
  191.   three. Because the Deskjet, Deskjet PLUS and the Deskjet
  192.   500 do not support manual feed, it is difficult to align
  193.   and print on partial pages of checks. The default
  194.   landscape font provides less than optimal results.
  195.  
  196.   Additionally, certain versions of the DeskJet 500 driver
  197.   can cause printing errors. Updating the driver or using
  198.   the DESKJET.DRV driver from Windows 3.00a or higher
  199.   solves this problem.
  200.  
  201.  
  202. * Printing on a Kyocera F-2010 laser printer
  203.   Money recommends using Laser Voucher checks with this
  204.   printer or printing Laser Standard checks in batches of
  205.   three (to avoid printing on partial pages of checks).
  206.  
  207.   The Kyocera F-2010 printer will not print the leftmost
  208.   three inches of the page when printing in landscape
  209.   mode using the printer's manual feed. You can try
  210.   printing partial pages from the letter-sized tray, but
  211.   proper alignment of partial sheets of checks in the
  212.   tray may be difficult.
  213.  
  214.  
  215. * Printing checks on IBM 4019 & 4029 laser printers
  216.   When printing a partial page of Laser Standard checks,
  217.   it is recommended that you use the Envelope feed
  218.   for better text alignment. On the printer's front panel,
  219.   choose Envelope feed.
  220.  
  221.  
  222. * Printing checks on IBM EXECJET printer
  223.   Money recommends using continuous-feed checks; this
  224.   printer prints laser checks in a font that is too large
  225.   for the check.
  226.  
  227.  
  228. * Printing reports on the Canon LBP-8 Mark III
  229.   When printing reports on this printer there can be
  230.   column alignment problems, missing text and underlines,
  231.   and other potential printing errors.
  232.  
  233.   Please contact your printer dealer to inquire about
  234.   updates to the Windows drivers for this printer.
  235.  
  236.  
  237. * Printing with NEC PinWriter series
  238.   Printing with the NEC PinWriter with the driver version
  239.   1.331 may cause an Unrecoverable Application Error.
  240.   Contact NEC for a more recent driver, version 1.37 or
  241.   higher.

  243.  
  244. * Micrografx postscript printer driver
  245.   If you are printing with Micrografx Postscript Printer
  246.   driver prior to version 2.6, you will need to install
  247.   the Postscript driver that ships with Microsoft
  248.   Windows 3.0 or 3.1 or contact Micrografx for an updated
  249.   printer driver.
  250.  
  251.   If you are printing with the Micrografx postscript printer
  252.   driver version 2.6 or above and have problems printing,
  253.   you will need to add a line to the MSMONEY.INI file. (The
  254.   file MSMONEY.INI is located in the same directory as
  255.   MSMONEY.EXE.) Open your MSMONEY.INI file with a text
  256.   editor (such as Windows Notepad) and add the following
  257.   line to the file:
  258.  
  259.   UseDefaultPrSetup=1
  260.  
  261.   Save the file and restart Microsoft Money. You will
  262.   now be able to print using the Micrografx postscript
  263.   printer driver.
  264.  
  265.  
  266. * NEC 800x600 video display adapters
  267.   Certain versions of this display adapter may have
  268.   refresh and display problems. If you experience a
  269.   significant number of display errors (missing text,
  270.   partially drawn screens, etc.), please contact your
  271.   NEC dealer for further information and the most recent
  272.   display driver.

  274.  
  275. * ATM and DCS Speedstar graphics card
  276.   Using Adobe Type Manager and a DCS Speedstar graphics
  277.   card set to 1024x768 resolution / 256 color may cause
  278.   an Unrecoverable Application Error in the Fonts dialog
  279.   in Reports. This can be corrected by installing a DCS
  280.   Speedstar driver with either lower resolution, such as
  281.   the 800x600 resolution / 256 color driver, or with fewer
  282.   colors, such as the 1024x768 resolution /16 color driver.
  283.   You may install these drivers through the Windows Control
  284.   Panel.
  285.  
  286.  
  287. * Multimedia machines & sound boards
  288.   Some sound boards used with multimedia machines may
  289.   cause an Unrecoverable Application Error when entering
  290.   a transaction in Money. To correct this, in Money, choose
  291.   Settings from the Options menu. Turn off the "Beep on
  292.   Transaction Entry" option.
  293.  
  294.  
  295. * US-International keyboard
  296.   If you have selected "US-International" keyboard layout
  297.   under Windows 3.1, the SHIFT+" (quotation mark) keyboard
  298.   shortcut will not work as documented in the Money 3 User's
  299.   Guide and online Help. Under the "US-International" layout
  300.   (KBDUSX.DLL), the quotation mark key serves as a dead key
  301.   that allows you to easily type diacritic vowels from non-
  302.   English alphabets. Money 3 preserves this functionality,
  303.   rather than overriding it with the shortcut.
  304.  
  305. * Australian and Canadian users can dlownload additional printer
  306.   drivers from the following download services:
